Abstract:

Abstract Background and Objective: The excessive use of broad-spectrum antibiotics will lead to drug resistance of microorganism and specially nosocomial organisms. Because of high incidence of antibiotic resistance in hospitals, we aimed to study antibiotic resistance to gram negative bacteria. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on the data of biological samples (2006-2008), with positive culture result. Using antibiogram, microbial resistance to isolated microorganism was determined, and after culturing the samples, bacteria were identified by using differential media and antiserum. Then, antibiotic resistance was performed by disk diffusion. Results: The most common gram-negative microorganism obtained from all cultures was Ecoli with the lowest drug resistance to Nitrofurantoin. Conclusion: Based on the results, antimicrobial resistance pattern is not the same in different places and furthermore it is ever changing. Therefore, further research is needed to be done to have an accurate pattern of antibiotic resistance to provide effective treatment regimens. Antibiotic Resistance of Gram-Negative Bacteria in Rivers, United States

Bacteria with intrinsic resistance to antibiotics are found in nature. Such organisms may acquire additional resistance genes from bacteria introduced into soil or water, and the resident bacteria may be the reservoir or source of widespread resistant organisms found in many environments. We isolated antibiotic-resistant bacteria in freshwater samples from 16 U.S. rivers at 22 sites and measure...

Frequency of Multi-Drug Resistance (MDR) in Gram Negative Bacteria from Urinary Infection in Gorgan, 2011-12

Abstract Background and objective: The periodic evaluation of antimicrobial activity of different antibiotic is essential because antibiotic sensitivity pattern may also changed during short courses. The aim of this study was to assess the frequency of Multi-drug Resistance (MDR) in Gram negative uropathogens. Material and Methods: This study was conducted on 111 gram negative uropatho...

Prevalence and Antibiotic Resistance Pattern of Extended Spectrum β-Lactamase- (ESBL-) Producing Gram Negative Bacilli isolated from Clinical Samples of hospitalized Patients in a hospital in Gorgan

Background & Aim: Antibiotic resistance among gram-negative bacilli is currently one of the major challenges for the health system in developing countries. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and antibiotic resistance pattern of common ESBL-producing gram negative bacilli isolated from clinical specimens of hospitalized patients in Falsafi Hospital in Gorgan. Methods: In this ...

Antibiotic resistance profile of clinical gram negative bacteria

A total of 100 gram negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Enterobactor spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae were collected from Dr. Essa laboratory and Dr. Ziauddin hospital in 2007, in Karachi, Pakistan. They were screened for their resistance against six antibiotics including amikacin, cefatoxime, cefoperazone/sulbactam, fosfomycin, piperacillin/tazobactam, and str...

antibiotic resistance pattern among gram negative mercury resistant bacteria isolated from contaminated environments

background mercury is one of the most toxic heavy metals. even a small amount of it is toxic for all living organisms. some of bacteria have developed special resistance mechanisms against mercury, in addition to resistant to different antibiotics. these bacteria usually acquire hg and antibiotic resistance genes via horizontal gene transfer in their habitat. objectives the aim of this study wa...

Multiply antibiotic-resistant gram-negative bacteria.

There are 3 main groups of multiple resistant Gram-negative bacteria:  Enterobacteriaceae with ESBL or AmpC enzymes – Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter cloacae, Citrobacter freundii, Morganella morganii, Serratia marcescens  Acinetobacter spp. – resistant to aminoglycoside antibiotics as well as occasionally carbapenems and Colistin  Pseudomonas spp. – resistant to combinations...
